OSSD Graduation Requirements
You need 30 credits total. If you started Grade 9 in 2023 or earlier, that means 18 compulsory credits and 12 optional credits. If you started Grade 9 in 2024 or later, that means 17 compulsory credits and 13 optional credits. See our graduation requirements page for full details.
If you started Grade 9 in the 2020–2021 school year or later, you must earn at least 2 online learning credits to graduate. Credits earned through Oakville Schooling Systems count toward this requirement. Parents or guardians may request an exemption on behalf of students under 18.
Most students meet the literacy requirement by passing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). If you do not pass, alternatives include the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O), which we offer in our course catalogue. Contact your school principal for other options.
Yes. All students need at least 40 hours of community involvement activities (volunteering) to earn their OSSD. You can start collecting hours in the summer before Grade 9. Check with your home school or school board for eligible activities and recording tools.
Students who started Grade 9 in 2024 or later must complete a provincial financial literacy graduation requirement. This is earned by achieving at least 70% on financial literacy modules during the Grade 10 Career Studies course. If you do not pass, contact your school principal about alternative pathways.

You will typically need proof of prerequisite completion (report card, transcript, or credit counselling summary) and valid photo identification. Our team will confirm specific requirements during enrollment.
Courses begin after enrollment is confirmed and prerequisites are verified. You will receive login instructions and course access details via email.
Course Pacing & Completion
Our courses are self-paced. Completion time depends on your schedule and subject comfort level. Most students complete a course within a semester, while motivated students may finish sooner.
Courses are designed for flexible pacing without rigid due dates. However, be mindful of university application deadlines and your home school's graduation timeline.
Students can contact their assigned teacher through the course platform's messaging system and schedule support sessions as needed.
Grades, Transcripts & OUAC
Upon successful completion, your final grade is recorded and a report card is issued. Credits are added to your Ontario Student Transcript toward your OSSD.
Provide your OUAC or OCAS number during enrollment or through our contact form. We will transmit midterm and final grades as required for your post-secondary applications.
Ontario online credits hold the same value as in-class credits. Always check individual university policies regarding e-learning credits and repeated courses.
